Sebastian Mernild

Sebastian holds a Doctor of Science degree and is a professor of climate change and glaciology. He began his career as a trained military officer before earning a PhD in climate change, glaciology and hydrology from the University of Copenhagen. He subsequently spent seven years working in the United States, including at the International Arctic Research Center and at several universities and laboratories.

He currently leads the SDU Climate Cluster and served as Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Southern Denmark from 2020 to 2022. From 2009 to 2023, Sebastian contributed as an author to the United Nations climate reports as a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC.

In 2018, he received the Rosenkjær Prize for communicating climate change to the wider public. In connection with the award, he produced the programme The Man on the Glacier in collaboration with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.
