Michael Svarer

Michael is a professor of economics at Aarhus University. From 2014 to 2020, he served as Chair of the Danish Economic Councils. He subsequently chaired the expert group on green tax reform, which also presented proposals for the design of a carbon tax.

He serves on the boards of several organisations with a focus on economics and is also an editor of the Danish Journal of Economics. In 2024, he was ranked as Denmark’s second most cited researcher and has successfully translated his substantial media presence into political influence. He has also been a Senior Fellow at Kraka since 2020.
